North Shore Lake is a gorgeous art piece handmade Copper Elements. North Shore Lake is a uniquely crafted representation of it's namesake which would best be displayed hanging on a wall and admired for generations.
Dan and Frances Hedblom of Rochester, MN began Copper Elements in 2010, standing out as a unique contender in the art world thanks to their process of flame painting, a unique process of torch work which brings out beautiful colors in the metal. This truly original method is a family secret which has been passed down through the generations. Interestingly, there are no chemicals, acids, stains, or paints used in there process. After finishing the work, it is sealed with a special finish to prevent patina and adding a UV protectant, allowing the piece may be displayed in the sun.
These breath-taking pieces require months of planning. It’s truly a team process – Frances, having had no prior experience working with a torch, found her calling in her natural talent of blending and bringing out the beautiful colors in the copper. Dan constructs the sturdy wood frames and does the buffing and grinding which enhances the colors when displayed in the light.
One of the features that makes their copper art stand alone is the unique curved frames designed and built by Dan with his 20 years of woodworking and carpentry experience. By combining both of their talents as a team they are able to design and create the artwork.
