"Glass is a really fascinating material. It's really dynamic material. It's one of those that things that gives you almost immediate response to what you're doing, probably some instant gratification as you are working with it."

Art of Fire Contemporary Glass Studio began in 1984 when Foster Holcombe and Theda Hansen lit their first furnace at the Maryland Renaissance Festival in Crownsville, Maryland. A short time later, they established a small gallery and hotshop at the Historic Savage Mill. They outgrew that space and in 1999, and lit the furnace at their current location, a re-purposed dairy barn in northern Montgomery County, MD. The barn is now home to our gallery and hot shop where we work, teach glassblowing classes and enjoy making glass for our customers.
