Sue Rioux has been pursuing artistic endeavors from a very young age. She started as a water-colorist, literally selling her paintings at local art shows starting at age nine. This experience taught her critical color theory she uses to this day. She moved on to creating stained glass art of all kinds for many years. But she found her true niche designing and creating award-winning glass kaleidoscopes. Her creativity seems to have no bounds, with exquisite oil-cell kaleidoscopes, as well as her signature stained-glass barrel styles, all copper soldered and decorated with special glass details. She works from her home studio, surrounded by the nature that inspires her.
Created with a kiln bent glass streaming with shades of blue and raspberry, Blue Raspberry is a dual mirror system kaleidoscope making it two distinct kaleidoscopes in one. The right side is a traditional 2 mirror system whose glass oil cell object chamber is filled with beads, wire and baubles in various shades of purples. The left side is a 3 mirror system whose glass oil filled object chamber is filled in various shades of blues, greens and purples. Both sides contain pieces of dichroic film creating an extra burst of excitement.
The top of the body is decorated with a cobalt blue dichroic accent jewel and glass rods on both sides. The flat bottom piece is done in a pastel purple. It's attached to its own brass frame, and finished with Sue's signature patina that she adds to all her soldering, resulting in a copper effect on the eyepiece end and other adornments.
